Temptation

Malcolm had always harbored a quiet fascination, one he’d never dared to voice, not even to his wife of twelve years. There was something about the way fabric clung to skin when wet, the way a woman’s laughter could turn breathless as she wrung out her hair, the way her eyes sparkled with mischief or surprise. He’d seen it in movies, in fleeting moments at the beach, but he’d never mustered the courage to admit it, not even to himself.

That changed at the Whitmore’s annual summer party.

The air was thick with the scent of grilled meat and chlorine, the pool shimmering under strings of fairy lights. Malcolm stood near the bar, nursing a whiskey, when a peal of laughter cut through the hum of conversation. He turned just in time to catch the tail end of a story.

"…and then Sarah just shoved me! Fully clothed, can you believe it? I was so mad at first, but honestly?"

The woman, Pam, grinned, swirling the ice in her glass. "It was kind of amazing. The way the water dragged at my dress, how everything just… stuck. I felt like a kid again, but also, " She leaned in, lowering her voice. ", kind of sexy, you know?"

Malcolm’s pulse quickened. He’d never heard anyone describe it like that. Before he could stop himself, he was sidling up to the group, offering to refresh their drinks.

"That sounds wild," he said, sliding a fresh gin and tonic toward Pam. "I’ve never heard someone say they enjoyed being pushed in the pool."

Pam laughed, her eyes flicking over him with interest. "Oh, it’s not for everyone. But there’s something about it, being out of control, the way the clothes just cling. It’s…" She trailed off, smirking. "A thrill."

Malcolm found himself leaning in, too. "Tell me more."

Pam didn’t need much encouragement. With each drink, her story grew more vivid, the cold shock of the water, the way her blouse had turned translucent, the weight of her skirt as she kicked to the surface. Malcolm hung on every word, his imagination running wild. He’d never felt so alive at a party, so connected to someone else’s experience.

Weeks had passed since the Whitmore’s party, and Malcolm and Pam had fallen into an easy rhythm, meeting for drinks after work, sharing meals at dimly lit restaurants, stealing glances across candlelit tables. Malcolm told himself it was just friendship, just the thrill of connection. But every time Pam laughed, every time she recounted another story of reckless fun, he felt the pull of something deeper, something he’d never dared to explore.

He never mentioned his wife.

One evening, as they lingered over coffee at a quiet bistro, Malcolm’s phone buzzed. A message from his wife: Running late at the office. Might stay over at Mum’s tonight. Don’t wait up.

His heart raced. This was his chance.

Pam swirled the last of her wine, watching him with a knowing smile. "You’re quiet tonight."

Malcolm swallowed hard. "I was just thinking…" He hesitated, then plunged forward. "My place is just around the corner. I’ve got a big tub. We could, " He cleared his throat. "We could have a bath together. If you wanted."

Pam’s eyes widened, then darkened with amusement. "Malcolm," she drawled, "are you asking me to get wet with you?"

Heat flooded his face. "I just thought, after what you said at the party, "

She leaned in, her voice dropping to a whisper. "You’ve been thinking about this, haven’t you?"

He nodded, unable to meet her gaze.

Pam sat back, studying him for a long moment. Then, with a slow smile, she reached for her coat. "Lead the way."

As they walked through the cool evening air, Malcolm’s nerves hummed with anticipation. He’d wanted this for so long, but now that it was happening, he couldn’t shake the nagging guilt, or the thrill of finally stepping into the unknown.

Would Pam really get into the bath fully clothed, how would that suit look drenched, would that blouse go see-through? He could barely wait to find out.

At home, Malcolm poured Pam a glass of wine, his hands steady despite the flutter in his chest. "Wait here," he said, his voice barely above a murmur. "I’ll get the bath ready."

He slipped into the bathroom, turning the taps until the water ran hot and steam began to curl into the air. With a deep breath, he undressed, but hesitated, his boxers stayed on. The water lapped at his skin as he settled into the tub, the heat doing little to ease the tension knotted in his shoulders.

A soft knock, then the creak of the door. Malcolm looked up.

Pam stood in the doorway, arms crossed, a playful smirk tugging at her lips. She was still fully dressed in a maroon suit, tailored blazer hugging her shoulders, the pencil skirt accentuating her curves, her dark hair sleek and polished. Her expression was a mix of amusement and curiosity, one eyebrow arched as she took in the scene.

"Malcolm," she drawled, leaning against the doorframe, "you've undressed"

He shifted, suddenly hyper-aware of his half-dressed state. "I should have said," he admitted, "it’s not about me getting wet. It’s about…" He gestured toward her, the words catching in his throat.

"About watching you. Seeing how the water changes everything."

Pam’s smirk deepened. She stepped closer, her heels clicking against the tile. "So you want me to get in?" she asked, her voice low and teasing. "Fully dressed?"

Malcolm nodded, unable to look away.

She reached for the buttons of her blazer, her fingers lingering. "You’re sure you don’t want to join me properly?" she teased, her eyes flicking down to his boxers. "Or are you just going to sit there and watch?"

He swallowed hard. "I just want to see you enjoy it."

Her gaze locked on his as she reached for the hem of her skirt. Malcolm’s breath hitched. This was it, the fantasy he’d never dared to voice, unfolding right in front of him. And for the first time, he wasn’t just imagining it. He was living it.

Pam unbuttoned her blazer and let it hang from her shoulders as she crouched beside the tub, her fingers testing the water, her jacket sleeve dangerously close to the surface. Her smile was knowing, fully aware of the effect this was having on Malcom. Her eyes locked on his as she slowly, deliberately, dipped one high-heeled shoe into the water.

"Nice," she murmured, more to herself than to him, though she knew he was hanging on every word. The water lapped at her ankle, darkening the fabric of her stockings. "But not unpleasant."

Malcolm’s breath hitched as she shifted, letting the water rise higher, soaking the hem of her skirt. She watched his reaction, her lips curling into a smirk. "You like this, don’t you?" she asked, her voice a purr. "Watching me get wet."

He could only nod, his throat too tight to speak.

Pam let out a soft laugh, stepping further into the tub. The water climbed, swallowing her skirt inch by inch, the fabric clinging to her legs, outlining every curve. "God, it’s heavy," she breathed, her fingers pressing into the soaked material. "I can feel it dragging, like it’s pulling me under." She continued, the water now at her waist, her blazer sleeves darkening as droplets splashed upward. "The stockings are the worst, or the best, I guess. They’re sticking to me, all tight and cold." She shivered, but her smile never wavered. "I bet you wish you could see how they look right now."

Malcolm’s hands clenched at the sides of the tub, his knuckles white. He’d dreamed of this moment for so long, but nothing in his imagination compared to the reality of Pam sitting there, her suit slowly surrendering to the water, her expression a mix of mischief and seduction.

She sank down further, the water now lapping at her ribs, her blouse clinging to her skin. "I can feel it all," she whispered, her voice dropping to a husky murmur. "The way the fabric’s turning see-through, how the water’s seeping into every layer. It’s…" She let out a breathy laugh. "It’s intoxicating."

Malcolm was speechless, his gaze locked on her as his wildest fantasy unfolded before him. Pam’s fingers found the top button of her blouse, her eyes never leaving his.

"Tell me, Malcolm," she teased, her voice dripping with promise, "how long have you been imagining this?"

Caught

Before Malcom could answer, The bathroom door swung open with a force that made the hinges groan. Malcolm’s blood ran cold as he heard the sharp click of heels on the tile. His head snapped toward the doorway, his mouth falling open in horror.

"Emilia!"

His wife stood there, her red dress a stark slash of color against the neutral tones of the bathroom, her dark eyes wide with disbelief. For a heartbeat, no one moved. Then, with a speed that belied her shock, Emilia stormed forward, her heels clicking sharply as she stepped right into the bath, water splashing over the sides.

Pam, still half-submerged in her soaked suit, scrambled back against the far edge of the tub, her face a mask of shock. Malcolm, caught between the two women, could only stare as Emilia grabbed his shoulder, her fingers digging in.

"What the hell is this, Malcolm?" Emilia’s voice was a whip-crack, her face flushed with fury. She turned her glare on Pam, who was now pressing herself against the tiles, her drenched blazer clinging to her arms. "And who the hell are you?"

Pam, despite the water dripping from her hair, lifted her chin. "I think the better question is who are you?" she shot back, though her voice wavered.

Emilia’s grip on Malcolm tightened, her nails biting into his skin. "I’m his wife," she spat. She turned back to Malcolm, her expression a mix of betrayal and disbelief. "I came home early because I forgot my damn scarf, and this is what I find? You in the bath with some, some woman!"

Malcolm opened his mouth, but no words came out. The weight of his deception crashed down on him, the fantasy he’d been living shattering in an instant.

Emilia’s hand lashed out, not to strike him, but to grab Pam’s wrist, yanking her forward. "Get out," she hissed, her voice trembling with rage. "Now."

Pam, her face pale, didn’t argue. She stumbled to her feet, water sloshing around her as she clambered out of the tub, her soaked suit clinging to her like a second skin. She didn’t look back as she grabbed her shoes and bolted for the door.

The second Pam was gone, Emilia rounded on Malcolm, her chest heaving. "You’re going to explain everything," she said, her voice low and dangerous. "Right now." She stepped closer, her dress now splattered with water, her eyes burning into his. "And it better be good."

Malcolm’s hands trembled as he reached for Emilia’s wrist, his voice raw. He swallowed hard, the words spilling out before he could stop them. "I have this thing, Emilia. For women in wet clothes. I was too embarrassed to tell you, scared you’d find me weird. You’re always so careful about your appearance, so smart, so put-together. Deliberately getting your clothes wet would be anathema to you. I overheard Pam telling her friends how she enjoyed getting soaked fully clothed, and I couldn’t resist. I just wanted to see it, just once."

Emilia’s breath hitched, her grip on the edge of the tub tightening. "So you invited her here? While I was out?" Her voice wavered, the hurt cutting deeper than anger. "How long have you been thinking about this, Malcolm? How long have you been hiding this from me?"

Malcolm shook his head, his eyes pleading. "Years. But it was never about acting on it, until tonight. I never told her I was married. I never wanted to hurt you."

Emilia’s shoulders sagged, the fight draining out of her as the weight of his confession settled between them. She stared at him, her expression crumbling from fury to something far more fragile. Without a word, she stepped further into the bath, the water rising around her, soaking the hem of her red dress. Malcolm watched, stunned, as she sank down fully clothed, the fabric clinging to her skin, darkening with every second.

The water lapped at her shoulders, her dress now a second skin, the vibrant red bleeding into the ripples around her. She let out a shaky breath, her eyes never leaving his. "You’re right," she said softly, her voice exhausted. "I do care about my clothes. About how things look." She lifted a hand, water dripping from her fingers. "But not as much as I care about you."

Malcolm reached for her, his heart pounding. "Emilia, "

She didn’t pull away. Instead, she leaned into his touch, her dress heavy with water, her expression resigned. "You should have told me," she murmured. "We could have figured it out. Together."

The bathwater swirled around them, the fantasy Malcolm had chased now drowned beneath the reality of what he’d almost lost. And for the first time, he wondered if the thrill of the secret had ever been worth it.

The water lapped gently against the sides of the tub, the only sound in the heavy silence. Emilia sat motionless, her red dress clinging to her like a second skin, her mind racing. Malcolm didn’t dare move, his breath shallow as he waited for her verdict, the weight of his betrayal pressing down on him.

Then, slowly, Emilia sat up. She turned to him, her eyes glistening, and without warning, she pulled him into a tight, almost conciliatory hug. Malcolm stiffened in surprise, his arms hovering awkwardly before he cautiously wrapped them around her.

"Why didn’t you tell me?" she whispered, her voice cracking. The warmth of her body against his was a stark contrast to the cold dread coiling in his stomach.

Malcolm opened his mouth to answer, but Emilia suddenly pulled back, her grip tightening on his shoulders. Anger flashed in her eyes again, sharp and raw. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t leave you right now," she demanded, her voice trembling with fury. "One reason, Malcolm."

Malcolm’s throat tightened. "That was the only time," he said quickly, desperation creeping into his voice. "Nothing actually happened, Emilia. I swear."

Emilia let out a bitter laugh, her fingers digging into his skin. "Only because I interrupted you," she shot back, her voice rising. "Where was this going if I hadn’t walked in, huh? Where were you planning to take it?"

Malcolm’s face paled. "I hadn’t thought it through," he admitted, his voice barely a whisper. "I didn’t plan for it to go this far. I just… wanted to see it. Just once."

Emilia’s expression crumpled. Tears welled in her eyes, spilling over as she let out a choked sob. She pulled him close again, her body shaking against his, her wet dress pressing into his skin. Malcolm froze, his own guilt paralysing him as her tears soaked into his shoulder.

"I loved you," she whispered brokenly, her voice muffled against his chest. "I trusted you."

Malcolm’s arms finally closed around her, holding her tightly as the weight of what he’d done crashed over him. The bathwater rippled around them, the fantasy he’d chased now drowned beneath the reality of what he’d almost destroyed. And for the first time, he understood the true cost of his secret.

The silence stretched between them, thick and heavy, broken only by the occasional drip of water from the faucet. Emilia’s breath hitched as she sat back slightly, her wet dress clinging to every curve, her mascara smudged but her gaze steady. The tension was unbearable, until, suddenly, the corner of her mouth twitched.

"Well," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, "do you think I look sexy in this wet dress?"

Malcolm’s eyes snapped to hers, stunned. The question hung in the air, fragile and daring. He swallowed hard, his gaze drifting over her, the way the fabric molded to her body, the dark streaks of water tracing the lines of her dress, the vulnerability and defiance in her eyes.

"Yes," he admitted, his voice rough. "But not just because of the dress. Because it’s you."

Emilia’s breath caught. She reached out, her fingers brushing his cheek, her touch cool from the water. "You should have told me," she murmured. "We could have made it a game. Something just for us."

Malcolm’s heart pounded. "I was scared," he confessed. "Scared you’d think I was weird. Scared you’d leave."

Emilia shook her head, a small, sad smile playing on her lips. "I’m not going anywhere, Malcolm." She shifted closer, the water rippling around them. "But if we’re going to do this, we do it together."

She took his hand and guided it to the soaked fabric of her dress, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Tell me what you like about it. Show me."

Malcolm hesitated, then let his fingers trace the outline of her waist, the waterlogged fabric clinging to her skin. Emilia’s breath hitched, her eyes never leaving his. The tension between them shifted, no longer laced with betrayal but with something new, something raw and honest.

As the water cooled around them, they leaned into each other, their foreheads resting together. Emilia’s arms wrapped around him, her wet dress pressing against his skin, her voice soft in his ear. "Next time, we do it my way."

Malcolm let out a shaky laugh, pulling her closer, the last of his guilt dissolving in the warmth of her embrace. For the first time in a long time, he felt seen, not just for his desires, but for who he was. And for the first time, he let himself believe that maybe, just maybe, they could build something even stronger from the wreckage.
